» – Blacky
The recording of this demo was initially done at the band practice space, Blacky and Away’s loft at the time. These are very ruff takes with lyrics, some nascent. The musical composition aspect of the songs was almost completed at this point and the final arrangements were also set.
“Following the release of the album Nothingface, we decided all together to get a little distance from our more complex ideas and try to write simpler songs. We wanted to catch the attention of a broader audience. Consequently, Denis ‘Piggy’ D’amour and I started to write arrangements, developing and exploring shorter melodies on our own at first and together afterwards. At that time, the most important factor for me was to stay true to our sound; we had a pretty define and distorted bass and guitar sound intertwined through complex chords and melodies. The phrasé and heaviness was what we had created together and essential to keep. Without it, we would never be the same band. Alveol captures it while Angel Rat does not.” – Blacky

Though they'd undoubtedly go on to do better things (and even to do some better re-recordings of some of these songs!) this is a fun romp through a time when heavy metal meant something different than it does now. The best band's beginnings still shine strong even after all these years! Brandon Corsair
This is the ABSOLUTE return of one of the MOST IMPORTANT heavy metal bands ever! Cirith Ungol offered us everything we hoped for and even more with this release, almost 30 years after their break-up. No more words, play it loud as it should be played! BoneWalker
A collection of unreleased material from Daniel Burke's beloved experimental project, spanning four decades of loud, off-kilter weirdness. Bandcamp New & Notable Jun 21, 2023
Blackbraid quickly followed up their 2022 debut in 2023 with more native folk infused furious black metal. This is by no means a sophomore slump as it is equally excellent, methodical, melodical, and approachable as the first record. 9/10 RJ
